WASHINGTON, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA) continues its growth with the addition of two new Board members.

During MDMA's recent annual meeting on June 14, association members voted to approve Alex Lukianov, Chairman and CEO of NuVasive in San Diego, CA, and Jo Ellen Slurzberg, Vice President, Reimbursement and Health Policy for Almyra Inc., in Boxborough, MA.
"Jo Ellen has been an active MDMA member for many years, and her experience and insight on reimbursement issues have been invaluable. We look forward to having her expertise on our Board," said Mark Leahey, Executive Director of MDMA. "With more than 20 years in the orthopedic industry with both large and small companies, Alex brings a wealth of medical device experience to bear as a member of our Board of Directors."

Mr. Lukianov joined NuVasive as CEO in July 1999. He has more than 20 years of senior management experience in the orthopedic industry and has been associated with building many highly successful companies, including Medtronic Sofamor Danek, the BackCare Group, and Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics. Mr. Lukianov also serves on the boards of the California Health Institute, BIOCOM, and Ophthonix, a privately held venture-backed company. He attended Rutgers University and served in the U.S. Navy.
Ms. Slurzberg joined Almyra Inc., a private international medical device holding company, in June of 2004 as Vice President, where she is responsible for strategic reimbursement, health policy, and business development. For the three years prior to joining Almyra, she was part of the executive consulting team at Boston Healthcare Associates, serving as Vice President of Consulting, leading the strategic reimbursement practice, consulting to the medical device, in vitro diagnostics, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industry, as well as to various investment banks and venture capital firms. In 2005, MX magazine profiled her among four U.S. reimbursement experts for the year. Ms. Slurzberg holds a bachelors degree from the University of Virginia.
