CHELMSFORD, Mass. – July 16, 2013 -- MPR Associates’ Product Development Group, specializing in medical, diagnostic and laboratory devices, as well as in consumer product design and development, is very pleased to announce the expansion of its business with a new office in the Boston area. MPR Associates has a long history of working with clients and consultants in the Boston metro area. The 3,300-square-foot facility is located at 100 Apollo Drive in Chelmsford, MA. The office will house 10 full-time employees by the end of 2013, with a plan to double the square footage by 2015.

The office in Chelmsford will further enhance these business relationships, and will bring MPR’s design and engineering expertise even closer to the Boston area and New England. MPR Product Development's VP, Christian Haller said, “The strategic importance of an office near Boston serving the New England Region cannot be overstated. MPR has many clients and potential clients here who will directly benefit from having a fully capable MPR design and engineering office close at hand. Boston is one of the top hubs of medical, diagnostic and laboratory device manufacturing, and our new Chelmsford office will bring our world-class design and product development resources to bear on a local level.”

“In Massachusetts we invest in the life sciences because we are choosing to shape our own future,” said Governor Deval Patrick. “I welcome MPR Associates to our life sciences supercluster and look forward to the jobs and economic opportunities they will bring.”

The announcement of the new branch office comes on the heels of multiple accolades for companies who have taken advantage of the MPR Product Development Team’s unique “Wow that Works” approach to product design, development and commercialization.

“‘Wow that Works’ combines creative industrial design with engineering excellence in a fully-integrated approach using in house resources to produce the most innovative and functional products that our clients’ customers will love to use, all in record time,” explained Craig Mauch, MPR's Director of Product Design and Manager of the Chelmsford office. “It is more than a capability--it is a culture and a philosophy that embodies all aspects of workflow, human factors, ergonomics, use case analysis and aesthetics in a creative process that also minimizes risk through application of technical knowledge, ‘first principles’ engineering, and comprehensive testing and validation.”

Through the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, Massachusetts is investing $1 billion over 10 years in the growth of the state’s life sciences supercluster. These investments are being made under the Massachusetts Life Sciences Initiative, proposed by Governor Patrick in 2007, and passed by the State Legislature and signed into law by Governor Patrick in 2008.

“External design teams like MPR play an important role in the strength of our world-leading life science community, and in the development of products that save and improve the lives of patients,” said MLSC President & CEO Susan Windham-Bannister, Ph.D. “We are excited to welcome MPR Associates to the Commonwealth, and we look forward to supporting the company’s ongoing growth here.”

“Some states drill for oil; others grow corn,” said Massachusetts State Representative Cory Atkins. “Here in Massachusetts, our specialty is brainpower. MPR is a company that builds on our knowledge-based economy, and I am glad to be able to welcome them to Chelmsford.”

“We’re pleased to welcome a world-class organization like MPR to Massachusetts,” said Tom Sommer, President of the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC). “Making the firm’s expertise in medical product development and design more accessible to our medtech manufacturing cluster improves our competitive advantage.”

In the past year MPR's clients have been showered with honors for devices designed and developed by MPR, including “The Scientist Top Ten Innovations of 2011” award; Medical Design Excellence Award Silver Award; Pittcon Editor's 2012 Bronze Award; and Frost & Sullivan’s Best Practices Award for 2012. MPR uses its “first principles” approach as a foundation while effectively integrating the end users’ needs, industrial design and the technical requirements throughout the development of each device.
