Mott Corporation Release: The Most Reliable Means Of Restricting Gas Flow

FARMINGTON, CT (November 2013) – Mott precision porous metal flow restrictors are reliable, cost-effective replacements for orifices, capillaries, or micrometering valves.

Product designers can be assured of a constant gas flow at a given gas pressure without having to worry about clogging and without having to design for wide variations in flow. A Mott flow restrictor consists of porous metal that is 40-90% dense in materials such as 316L SS, Hastelloy®, or other corrosion resistant alloys that are manufactured to tightly controlled standards. When compared to a drilled orifice, Mott flow restrictors channel gas through thousands of pores instead of just one, reducing gas exit velocity and resulting in a more laminar flow. In addition, because the gases move through the myriad of pores, porous metal flow restrictors are virtually impervious to erosion or wear, retaining the original calibration almost indefinitely.

Examples of how industries use Mott’s flow restrictor products include gas flow control in breathing apparatus, flow control of gas chromatographs, safety devices on anesthesia equipment, gas mixing into food and beverage applications, as well as fuel metering in space probes and satellites.
