Mortara Instrument, Inc. Announces eCardio Diagnostics As The First Service Provider Offering The New H3+ Holter Monitor For Arrhythmia Assessment

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Mortara Instrument, Inc, a leading manufacturer of non-invasive cardiology diagnostic equipment announced today the successful launch of its H3+ Holter monitor as a fully integrated part of eCardio Diagnostics' service portfolio. eCardio Diagnostics, a leading provider of advanced ambulatory monitoring products and services to cardiologist and electrophysiologist practices and institutions nationwide, will utilize the H3+ for arrhythmia monitoring of patients experiencing heart related symptoms on a daily basis. The recently introduced H3+ Holter monitor, is the smallest monitor currently available from leading diagnostic services and promises to substantially enhance patience compliance.

Holter monitoring gives physicians a constant reading of a patient's heart rate and rhythm during a designated 24 or 48 hour period to help them assess the nature of their patients' potential heart problem.

Once the patient records their heart rhythm, the data is then uploaded by the physician directly to eCardio Diagnostics lab via a secure USB connection for analysis. The report is reviewed, analyzed and returned to the referring physician within 24 hours for diagnosis.

"Patient compliance has been a problem with Holter monitoring for many years. Given the bulky nature of traditional monitors and the requirement of wearing it for 24 to 48 hours at a time has in the past reduced the number of patients willing to wear this important device. We are pleased to be able to offer a small, convenient and user-friendly alternative to patients requiring holter monitoring," said Justin L. Mortara, Ph.D., Vice President for Mortara Instrument Inc.

Weighing just 1 ounce (28g) and approximately the size of a single AAA battery, the H3+ Holter monitor is so small and lightweight it can be worn comfortably underneath clothing. The continuous recording makes the H3+ Holter monitor effortless for the patient and subsequently increases patient compliance.

"With Mortara's new H3+ Holter monitor, its compact size and clinical functionality eliminates the compliance issues as patients hardly notice they are wearing the device and physicians get the quick clinical results they need to diagnose a potentially life-threatening heart problem. eCardio Diagnostics is pleased to be the first adopter of the H3+ Holter monitor, allowing us to provide our customers with such advanced monitoring technology," said Larry Lawson, President and CEO, eCardio Diagnostics.

Holter monitors are used by cardiologist and electrophysiologists to monitor and diagnose many heart rhythm problems. Heart rhythm problems, or arrhythmias, occur when the electrical impulses in your heart coordinating your heartbeats don't function properly, causing your heart to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly. An arrhythmia may result in a heartbeat that is unusually fast (tachycardia), unusually slow (bradycardia), or irregular (atrial fibrillation). An arrhythmia may be brief and unnoticeable, or it may be startling, obvious or even fatal. According the American Heart Association serious arrhythmias contribute to approximately 500,000 deaths in the United States each year.
