Medtronic Spine to Restructure Workforce, Cut Costs by 5 Pct

Medtronic Inc. is planning layoffs for its spinal business, though details on how many jobs will be cut won't be released until May. Industry journal MassDevice reports on the planned cuts, noting that Fridley-based Medtronic hopes to trim overall costs by 5 percent through a variety of means. Any cuts to the spinal device business in particular would likely have a limited effect on Medtronic’s Twin Cities operations. Its spine business is based in Memphis, Tenn., though it has operations elsewhere.
