Medtronic, Inc. Laying Off 220 Twin Cities Employees

Medtronic Inc. said Wednesday it is laying off 220 people from a Twin Cities facility that makes pacemakers and implantable cardiac defibrillators.

The layoffs are occurring at Medtronic's Cardiac Rhythm Management facility in Mounds View.

Medtronic spokesman Steve Cragle said the 220 people already had been notified that their positions had been eliminated. He said the move is part of the normal adjusting of staffing levels based on market conditions and customer demands.

Medtronic (NYSE: MDT) is a medical device maker that is based in Fridley and has 45,000 employees worldwide. It has about 9,000 Twin Cities employees.
