Medtronic's CoreValve subsidiary asks the U.S. Supreme Court to consider its appeal of a lower court's decision to uphold a $74 million verdict in favor of Edwards Lifesciences and its Sapien heart valve. Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) wants the U.S. Supreme Court to toss a lower court's decision to uphold a $74 million win for Edwards Lifesciences (NYSE:EW) in their patent war over heart valve technology. Medtronic, which inherited the spat when it purchased CoreValve and its transcatheter aortic valve implant in April 2009 for about $700 million, filed a writ of certiorari with the Supremes this week, requesting a review of a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruling that upheld the Edwards win last November.
