VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - September 23, 2013) - Lumenis Ltd., the world's largest medical laser company for surgical, ophthalmic, and aesthetic applications, announced today the introduction of the AcuPulse DUO CO2 Laser at the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 2013 Annual Meeting, Lumenis booth # 1734. The AcuPulse DUO is the only integrated CO2 laser system that allows surgeons to switch between fiber and free beam modalities electronically.

The AcuPulse DUO addresses a broad range of clinical solutions for ear, nose and throat, gynecology, otology and general surgery. Combined with its full range of fiber and free beam accessories, it is a powerful surgical tool. Additionally, three power modes, three timed-exposure modes and the SurgiTouch scanner give surgeons the freedom to customize beam delivery and control tissue effect for optimal balance between surgical precision and microvascular hemostasis.

"The versatility of the AcuPulse DUO will allow surgeons to treat a broader range of patients," said Prof. Marc Remacle, M.D., PhD, Dept. of ORL and Head & Neck Surgery, University Hospital of Mont-Godinne, Belgium. "With the combination of precision transoral laser microsurgery to treat tumors of the throat and larynx, and the flexibility of fiber-delivered laser energy to treat hard-to-reach anatomy, AcuPulse DUO will improve my ability to tailor treatment for each patient, help improve clinical outcomes and enhance patient safety."

The AcuPulse DUO CO2 fiber allows surgeons to cut and ablate around corners and reach tight spaces for enhanced access and ease of use. Lumenis has developed a wide range of new single and multi-use fibers and accessories to enhance surgeons' flexibility.

The free beam Digital AcuBlade scanning micromanipulator enables virtually char-free margins for excellent tissue sample, analysis, preservation of healthy surrounding tissue and superior visibility when surgery requires the highest level of CO2 laser precision. AcuPulse DUO is backed by a full suite of free beam laser accessories.

"The AcuPulse Duo affords unparalleled ability to cater specific surgical treatment to a broad range of pathology in the performance of transoral head and neck procedures," said Joshua S. Schindler, M.D., Associate Professor, OHSU Department of Otolaryngology, Oregon Health & Science University, USA. "Coupling line-of-sight and fiber-based laser approaches allows the greatest surgical freedom in addressing lesions that are difficult to access and lets us treat disease endoscopically that would otherwise mandate another approach. I have substantially more confidence in my surgical plan and expected outcome when both options are available to me."
