(Stoke-on-Trent, UK) - Lucideon is pleased to announce that it has offered three healthcare technology placements to students from University College Dublin (UCD).

Karl Mackle, who is studying for a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering, will be working on the FP7-funded €5 million “ReBioStent” project which is looking at the development of new biomaterials and arterial stents.

Evan Guilfoyle and Ross Smith, who are studying for Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering respectively, have joined the wear testing team in their new state-of-the-art orthopaedic implant testing facilities.

Gemma Budd, Business Manager, Healthcare, said:

“We are pleased to be working with such a well respected university as UCD. These placements will give the three students the opportunity to see how science is used in industry and commercially. We will, of course, also benefit, as we’ll be able to tap into their knowledge and enthusiasm.”

Evan Guilfoyle said:

“Being able to work at the cutting edge of product innovation, on new technologies with a company with a wide range of resource and knowledge, was the big appeal for me.”

All three engineers will be working within Lucideon’s Healthcare team which serves the medical devices, consumer healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. Lucideon recently announced a £1.5M investment in new pharmaceutical chemistry and microbiology laboratories, as well as a £1M investment in new wear testing facilities both in the UK and the US.
