(Stoke-on-Trent, UK) - Lucideon, an international provider of materials development, testing and assurance, and Knight Mechanical Testing, an independent mechanical testing laboratory, are pleased to announce that they have entered into a Marketing and Commercial Collaboration Agreement. The agreement means that both partners will now be to offer a complete portfolio of testing and analysis services to the orthopaedic industry.

KMT, based in Fort Wayne, IN, specialises in fatigue, dynamic and static mechanical testing. Working with clients ranging from multinationals to surgeon-inventors, KMT helps them to gain regulatory approval of new devices and understand the performance of new products and materials.

With facilities in New York and South Carolina, and headquartered in Stoke-on-Trent, UK, Lucideon’s materials development and testing expertise lies in ceramics, polymers and metals. Understanding materials and processes and their interactions enables its experts to assist manufacturers with the development, validation and optimisation of new products and materials. Testing services include chemical and physical characterisation, simulated wear testing and tribology, and cleanliness validation.

Lucideon and KMT have agreed a pricing arrangement that guarantees that a client gets the same price and service from both organisations. The partnership has also implemented a project management system to ensure that joint projects run smoothly and efficiently.

KMT has a presence on testing standards committees, which will allow both KMT and Lucideon to influence the direction of testing.

Gemma Budd, Healthcare Business Manager for Lucideon, says:

“Our customers wanted us to expand into mechanical testing but instead of starting from scratch and having to gain expertise, partnering with KMT gives us immediate credibility.

“I believe that this partnership will be of great benefit to our clients. Lucideon and KMT are both committed to forming valuable and ongoing relationships with our clients so that we can provide solutions and not just numbers.”

Kevin Knight, CEO at KMT, says:

“KMT has concentrated on growth and specialization around its core strengths in mechanical testing, and we are proud of the reputation we have earned in the orthopaedic industry. We are respected as a provider of timely, technically superior testing services and expert guidance for test protocol development. Lucideon not only carries the same ISO 17025 quality accreditation as KMT, but its approach to business is similar. With a presence in Europe and an existing client base in the USA, and a range of complementary services, such as wear testing and failure analysis, the agreement with Lucideon will offer us and our existing and future clients more opportunities. Together we will be able to support clients throughout the entire product lifecycle, from product development through to market introduction.”
