Low Vitamin D in Early Pregnancy Tied to Lower Birth Weight, University of Pittsburgh Study

Vitamin D deficiency early in pregnancy may increase the risk of having a baby with a lower birth weight, according to a new study. Researchers looked at vitamin D levels in blood samples collected from more than 2,000 U.S. women who gave birth to full-term babies. Although the original collection was done between 1959 and 1965, the blood samples were well preserved.
