LabSmith Epifluorescence Modules for SVM340 Synchronous Video Microscope

LIVERMORE, CA (October 14, 2010) - LabSmith Inc, developer of tools for science, has released the EPI epifluorescence optics modules for its SVM340 Synchronous Video Microscope. The new modules are designed for applications that require higher wavelength discrimination and/or improved signal-to-noise ratio, including microfluidics and biological applications such as cell imaging and Micro-Particle Image Velocimetry. The new modules were unveiled in October, 2010 at MicroTAS 2010 in Groningen, The Netherlands.

“The interchangeable EPI modules greatly extend the application space for the SVM340,” said Yolanda Fintschenko, Ph.D., Director of New Technologies, Marketing and Sales for LabSmith. “The SVM340 microscope has proven to be invaluable for acquiring images, video and velocity data in micro- and nano-fluidic circuits. Adding epifluorescence capabilities lets researchers visualize and record flows using greater selectivity, limits of detection, and resolution. The SVM340 with EPI modules creates an unprecedented combination of value in price, performance, and flexibility for R&D and teaching labs.”

The low-cost SVM340 microscope combines synchronous pulsed fluorescence illumination, highly sensitive video output, innovative staging that will not perturb micro-systems, and novel sequencing software for capturing events in microfluidics systems. Interchangeable optics modules and image capture and processing software make the learning curve short for obtaining publication-quality images.

LabSmith offers EPI-BLUE and EPI-GREEN modules, suitable for imaging FITC-conjugates and CY-3 conjugates, respectively. Each sealed EPI module is self-contained and includes a high-sensitivity camera, excitation and emission filters, a dichroic mirror, LED illuminator and objective mount. The microscope also features a four-channel external LED ring illuminator for increased intensity.
