BOSTON, May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Porter Novelli (PN) today announced that Kathleen Stefanelli has relocated to its Boston office as vice president of health care. Stefanelli joins the Boston team from the Porter Novelli Toronto office, where she had established herself as a leading communications professional on behalf of pharmaceutical and biotech companies, patient groups and government agencies. Stefanelli has successfully managed new product introductions, promoted scientific trial results and lead public awareness campaigns. While in Toronto, she emerged as a spokesperson on communications issues facing the health care industry.

On behalf of Porter Novelli, Stefanelli has provided media relations, corporate communications and marketing campaigns to clients such as Baxter BioScience, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Sanofi-Synthelabo Canada, MDS Sciex and CryoCath Technologies. Other clients have included the AIDS Committee of Toronto, DuPont Pharma, Eli Lilly, Glaxo Wellcome and the Cancer Advocacy Coalition of Canada. Stefanelli joined Porter Novelli Toronto two-and-a-half years ago following a career in health care communications that began at BIOTECanada, a national biotechnology association representing 85 percent of the Canadian biotech industry.

"Kathleen has directed communications for some of Canada's most important pharmaceutical and biotech companies, as well as for patient groups and government entities," said Jim Barbagallo, a partner in the Boston office. "Through her PR agency and biotech industry background, Kathleen has developed a client-focused approach to communications challenges, and her scientific expertise enhances her ability to communicate the benefits of complex science to a range of audiences. We're excited about the impact Kathleen is going to have on the Boston health care market."

Stefanelli holds a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. Honors degree in Biopsychology from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.
