IPC Enters Into Agreement With Health Options Of Illinois To Provide Hospitalist Services At Victory Memorial Hospital

10/19/2005 5:12:16 PM

CHICAGO, Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- IPC -- The Hospitalist Company announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Health Options of Illinois, Inc., to provide hospitalist services to its members who are hospitalized at VISTA Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan. Health Options of Illinois, Inc., is a community-based IPA (Independent Physicians Association) that has been serving residents of Lake County for the past ten years.

In addition to the Health Options of Illinois, Inc., agreement, VISTA Health entered into an agreement with IPC earlier this year through which IPC physicians began seeing patients at both Victory Hospital as well as at nearby Saint Therese Medical Center. Currently, nearly 33 IPC physicians attend to approximately 300 patients daily at 16 hospitals throughout Chicago and its surrounding communities.

Hospitalists are acute-care specialists who focus on a patient's hospital care from time of admission to discharge. As the nation's fastest-growing medical specialty, hospitalists increase quality of care and reduce healthcare costs while providing patients the added comfort and security of having a physician on-site to oversee care, answer questions and assure the smooth coordination of all hospital services.

"Hospitalists have the unique ability to drive the delivery system towards better care by coordinating all of the tests, treatments and services that take place within the hospital," said Albino Bismonte, M.D., chairman of the board of Health Options. "This agreement with IPC will allow our members to take full advantage of IPC's unique skill set while allowing our own physicians to focus exclusively on their outpatient practice and to keep their patients healthy."

IPC is the nation's premier hospitalist company employing approximately 300 physicians at numerous practice locations around the country. Collectively, these practices see more than a million patients and manage more than $1 billion in healthcare expenditures annually. The company's consulting services division helps hospitals and other healthcare organizations launch new hospitalist programs or enhance existing ones.
