Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc. Acquires The Assets Of First Check Diagnostics, LLC

WALTHAM, Mass., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc. (Amex: IMA - News), a leading manufacturer and marketer of rapid diagnostic products for the consumer and professional markets, today announced that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of First Check Diagnostics LLC, a privately held diagnostics company, for approximately $25 million in cash. In addition, Inverness will pay an earn out to First Check equal to the incremental revenue growth of the acquired products for 2007 and for the first nine months of 2008, as compared to the immediately preceding comparable periods. First Check had 2006 revenues of approximately $11 million and has been operating profitably.

First Check, headquartered in Lake Forest, California, is the market leader in the rapidly-growing field of home testing for drugs of abuse, including marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines and opiates. In addition, it offers tests, also sold through retail channels, for alcohol abuse, cholesterol monitoring, and colon cancer screening.

According to the results of the 32nd Annual Monitoring the Future survey, 21% of 8th graders, 36% of 10th graders and 48% of 12th graders have taken an illicit drug in their lifetime.
