Intrexon Appoints Globally Recognized CIO

BLACKSBURG, VA--(Marketwire - July 14, 2011) - Intrexon Corporation, a privately held synthetic biology company, today announced the appointment of Timothy D. Kasbe, MBA, as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of the corporation.

Mr. Kasbe has over 20 years of experience transforming and managing IT systems and operations at both small and large organizations. Most recently he was CIO of Sears Holdings, Chicago, IL, where he led the rapid and highly competitive transition from legacy systems to advanced web-based capabilities, across the entire global enterprise and its large array of multi-user interactions and transactions.

Prior to joining Sears Holdings, Timothy was CIO at Reliance Industries Limited, where he helped launch the largest organized retail chain in India. At Reliance, Mr. Kasbe led the formation of shared service for all twelve of their business areas. Mr. Kasbe started his career in the financial industry at Westpac Banking Corporation in Sydney, Australia, where he led the merger and acquisition integration with the Australian Guarantee Corporation, deploying core systems related to banking and money markets. He transitioned to a Managing Consultant role with Andersen Consulting and then to a lengthy tenure with IBM during which he led top customer engagements involving multiple mission critical areas, including vertical acquisition, integration, change management, and delivery in telecom, banking, insurance and retail companies in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. Timothy and his teams are recipients of many awards. In 2007, his team was awarded SAP's highest recognition, their ACE award for fastest and most comprehensive deployment of ERP in the retail and distribution world. In 2008 Mr. Kasbe achieved "Global CIO 100" by CIO magazine and he was named a key influencer of the retail industry by Retail Information Systems magazine in 2010. Timothy is on the board of advisors to Seriosity, Inc., the India advisory board of Duke University, and will serve as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Stanford University over the upcoming year. Mr. Kasbe holds a MBA degree from Duke University.

"Timothy has an exceptional track record in the highly diverse, interaction intensive, and fiercely competitive retail industry," states Randal J. Kirk, Intrexon's Chairman and CEO. "His transformational innovations and related successes, in the midst of such large scale complexity, are at the top tier of CIO capabilities." Kirk continues, "I was particularly attracted to Timothy's enterprise-wide approach to web-based applications and how those innovative methods can be adapted to a wide variety of internal and external processes within the rapidly emerging world of synthetic biology. I believe the combination of Timothy's experience with large-scale enterprise systems and Intrexon's extensive bioinformatics capabilities will, under Timothy's leadership, prove to be a significant competitive advantage. I am very energized by the intersection of these powerful IT disciplines and look forward to working with Timothy on breaking new ground for IT in life sciences."

According to Kasbe, the breadth of Intrexon's IT trajectory is familiar ground from a transaction processing standpoint, but the opportunity to use his talents to develop and scale innovative synthetic biology applications is highly exciting. "I am delighted about applying my experience and capabilities to such a novel and world-changing space. I already see where many innovative IT advancements that have been deployed strategically in other industries, such as retail, finance and high-tech, would be applicable in biotech. I will address those rapidly for Intrexon. However, my foremost interest will be to deliver new approaches that will help accelerate global understanding and appreciation for the wide range of industry applications that can be produced using synthetic biology. I very much appreciate the opportunity to join the Intrexon executive team and look forward to working with my colleagues to help drive the highest and best execution of our mission."
