Impac Software and Amirsys(R) Announce Development of Integrated Solution for Anatomic Pathology

SUNNYVALE, Calif., and SALT LAKE CITY, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Impac Software, part of the Elekta Group and provider of information technology solutions for anatomic pathology (AP) laboratories, and Amirsys, Inc., a leader in reference materials for radiology and pathology, today announced the development of an integration between PowerPath(R), Impac's AP laboratory information system, and PathIQ(R), Amirsys' PathIQ ImmunoQuery immunostain decision support system.

Important for hospitals, as well as independent labs, this integration will provide pathologists with immediate access to published reference materials and antibody suggestions, resulting in more accurate, efficient and complete diagnoses for AP cases. It also will shorten the time it takes to determine or verify accurate diagnoses -- providing the pathologist with an estimate of turnaround times if the test is performed in their laboratory or requires a send out of slides.

"The integration of PathIQ ImmunoQuery with PowerPath helps hospitals or independent labs promote cost-effective management of their internal antibody and IHC resources," reports Elizabeth Hammond, M.D., FCAP, Executive Editor for Pathology at Amirsys. "The integration of PowerPath and ImmunoQuery now allow a lab to use the new PowerPath custom immunostain menu mapping feature between the lab's existing inventory and ImmunoQuery's extensive antibody menu and database. The system will then automatically compare the antibodies in the lab's own inventory to pathologist requested IHC panels and determine if the requested antibodies are 'available in-house,' 'available via send-out,' or 'not typically supported.' The new integration can assist pathologists who use PowerPath to select first from in-house available immunostains whenever medically appropriate, thereby promoting cost-effective management of IHC costs. In addition, the integration helps streamline the pathologist's workflow by ensuring that the most effective immunostains possible are ordered, thereby improving the quality of patient care. As an additional benefit, instead of separate logins for PowerPath and ImmunoQuery, the new integration allows PowerPath users to simply access ImmunoQuery directly from within PowerPath."

"Impac is excited to be working with Amirsys to provide access to this service directly from PowerPath," says George Rugg, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Impac Software's LIS business unit. "Over the years thousands of pathologists from around the world have been using this valuable tool for training and as an aid in the diagnostic process. This partnership reinforces Impac's commitment to integrate proven technologies."

PowerPath demonstrations will be available at the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, September 25-27. For additional information, visit Impac booth # 302, Amirsys at booth # 804, or visit www.impac.com/pathology and www.amirsys.com .
