ICU Medical, Inc. (ICUI) Signs Agreement with ROi for MicroClave® Clear Needlefree IV Connector

SAN CLEMENTE, Cali, June 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- ICU Medical, Inc. (NASDAQ: ICUI) today announced that it has signed a contract with ROi (Resource Optimization & Innovation) for MicroClave® Clear neutral displacement needlefree IV connectors to be used on central and peripheral IV lines at Mercy, the eighth largest Catholic health care system in the United States, serving more than 3 million people annually. ROi is the health care supply chain company founded by Mercy more than a decade ago.

The MicroClave Clear is the only neutral displacement connector that combines market-leading Clave® technologythe best selling needlefree IV connector technology in the worldwith a clear housing that lets clinicians visualize the fluid path so they can clearly see whether they have completely flushed the connector after blood draws or administration. The neutral displacement straight fluid path design, split-septum and minimal deadspace of the MicroClave Clear work together to help minimize blood reflux into the tip of the catheter upon connection or disconnection of the luer. In addition, in a study of the bacteria transfer and biofilm formation properties of needlefree connectors, the MicroClave proved to provide an effective barrier to bacterial transfer and colonization, outperforming all connectors tested in terms of bacteria transfer, biofilm formation, and biofilm bacteria formation.(1)
