Human Genome Sciences, Inc. to Cut 114 Positions

Baltimore Business Journal by Christopher Mahoney, Managing Editor

Human Genome Sciences, a Rockville-based life sciences company, is eliminating 114 positions beginning in October, according to a notification the company sent to the state Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.

The company told the state department that the eliminations were due to an internal restructuring of its workforce. The eliminated positions represent roughly 10 percent of its 1,100-strong workforce.

Last month, GlaxoSmithKline completed its $3.6 billion takeover of Human Genome Sciences, ending GlaxoSmithKline’s months-long struggle for control of the company. Human Genome Sciences agreed last month to be acquired after earlier rejecting an acquisition offer of $13 per share as too low.
