Looking to land the perfect job in research and development but not sure how to stand out? Luminex has approximately 700-1,000 employees worldwide with headquarters in Austin, Texas.

Luminex Recruiting Manager Jennifer Maguire 1. What is the first thing you look for in an applicant for a R&D job’s resume?

The first thing I look for is applicable experience for the role. Whether it is in academia or in industry, I need to see experience that will translate well to the role I am seeking to fill.

2. Any “killer” mistakes someone can make when writing a resume of interviewing that would make them an instant no-go candidate?

When an interviewee uses the word “I” too much, it’s a red flag. There is a definite line between self-assuredness and overconfidence. At Luminex, a person must be collaborative to succeed. We certainly need to understand his or her technical accomplishments as related to the role, but not one person can achieve great things without a great team.

3. What are the classic parameters for the “perfect” R&D candidate?

Luminex Recruiting Manager Jennifer Maguire The perfect candidate for R&D brings together research and development experience from areas within our industry as well as hands-on experience with the Luminex Technology.

4. What’s the average speed of the hiring process and how can a candidate make themselves standout more?

The average speed of the hiring process is typically six to eight weeks. One of the best ways for a candidate to stand out in the crowd is to do research on the company he or she is interested in, and then somehow weave that information into the cover letter and resume.
