After receiving clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its medical device, Houston-based Arcos Inc. is launching into discussions with providers and plans to ramp up manufacturing. The device is aimed at treating severely burned patients. After a person is burned, fluid intake is critical, Arcos CEO Chris Meador said. However, too much or too little fluid can lead to major complications.Meador's company, with $770,000 in funding from the U.S. Army, developed a device that provides specific recommendations to treat individual patients every hour throughout the critical fluid-intake phase. The company plans to market the device to the Army as well as civilian-burn intensive care units. Arcos is currently in talks with local providers that take care of burn victims, but Meador declined to name names.
