Hepa Wash Opens New Laboratory and Factory Space at MTZ

Munich, October 12th 2010 – Hepa Wash opens a new laboratory and factory space at Munich Technology Center (MTZ). In the past months on approximately 300 m² a modern equipped Research Center was established. "In the new facility we can complete the preparations for the CE certification of our liver dialysis device," says Holger Chab, Chief Technology Officer.

The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs supports the further development of the innovative liver dialysis device with 770,000 euro. The grant shall be paid over the duration of three years. "We are very pleased that the experts of the Ministry appreciated the plausibility of our development project as well as financial planning." says Dr. Bernhard Kreymann, CEO of Hepa Wash. “The boost allows pressing ahead with the development of the device even faster than we scheduled. Compared to the total project work we now finished more than one-third.”

In September a pilot clinical study at II. Medical Clinic in Hospital rechts der Isar started. First results are expected in the end of the year. For this study a TUEV approved prototype of the device is used. In parallel to the pilot study the company finishes the device for the CE certification. The pivotal clinical multi center study will be started immediately after completion of the pilot study. A CE certified machine will be available in July 2011.

About Hepa Wash GmbH

Hepa Wash GmbH, which is located in the "Munich Technology Center" (MTZ), works since its foundation in 2005 on a new liver support therapy, to reduce the high mortality of critically ill patients with liver failure. Recent studies revealed that existing therapies can hardly achieve any positive effects on survival of liver patients. However, the Hepa Wash procedure has a significantly increased detoxication capacity and is therefore expected to improve the survival rate of affected patients for at least 30 percent. Two in-vitro- and preclinical studies already showed the imposing beneficial effects of the procedure.
