DALLAS – Pennsylvania-based AmerisourcesBergen Specialty Group has big plans for a new 40-acre Texas facility. The company plans to consolidate its North Texas workforce under one roof and the new campus will allow the company to add more than 1,000 employees over the next 10 years, the Dallas Business Journal reported.

The healthcare giant plans to occupy a 300,000 square-foot campus that has a price tag of about $113 million, the Journal said. When the new site opens, AmerisourceBergen will move about 1,200 current employees to the facility. The first wave of 1,200 employees are expected to shift to the new facility in 2019. Another 800 or more are expected to move to the facility in the following year and then there will be a hiring period, the Journal said. There was no indication of when the company might begin hiring those other positions, but James Frary, president of AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group, said in a statement to the Dallas Morning News, that the needs of its associate population has grown as the company business has grown.

"AmerisourceBergen is the essential partner for pharmaceutical manufacturers and providers; we continue to rapidly grow our capabilities to help our partners to improve patients' lives," Frary said in a statement to the Dallas News.

The positive news about the new location, including the hiring, has likely helped shares of AmerisourceBergen to jump slightly this morning. Shares of the stock hit a morning high of $81.75, up from its open of $80.28. AmerisourceBergen serves as a pharmaceutical sourcing and distribution services company for the healthcare industry. In 2015, the company experienced steady growth through its M&A practices. In particular, two deals stand out for the company—its deals with veterinary drug retailer MWI Veterinary Supply for $2.5 billion and compound drug supplier PharMEDium for $2.58 billion.

AmerisourceBergen saw more than $135 billion in annual revenue in 2015. The company employs 19,000. The company reported a revenue increase of 7.7 percent to $36.9 billion for the third quarter in August. In May, the company announced a three year extension of its distribution relationship with Walgreen’s Boots Alliance. The company also has a distribution agreement with Publix, which was announced in February. The company has also worked to make inroads with small unaffiliated pharmacies. In July the company launched several programs to help independent pharmacies improve business performance while meeting growing patient need. One of those programs is a new website which provides pharmacists a “centralized place to access tools and resources to join advocacy movements that impact care in the community setting, research policies impacting independent pharmacy, access letter templates and write to legislators, and connect with other pharmacists and pharmacy organizations.”
