Hays Life Sciences HR Survey 2012

5/15/2012 11:11:39 AM

May 15, 2012 -- Life Sciences Employers are becoming more militant in the battle for talents.

It is not only about sourcing the right professionals from the market but most of all creating the work environment to attract and retain them.

As Hays Consultants, who recruit professionals in Life Sciences, we listen to candidates’ needs and requirements every day. We know what makes one position more appealing than the other. We know that not only financial aspects are influencing the job decisions. But most of all we understand that recruitment in Life Sciences requires individual approach and custom solutions.

Therefore we have decided to further research HR market and learn perspective of both Employers and Employees. We have surveyed over 500 professionals and over 50 top Life Science Companies in CEE. Our expertise combined with research results enables us to indicate the most effective methods of recruitment in this challenging sector. Moreover we are also able to provide guidance for job seekers who can learn Employers’ point of view and compare their requirements with other professionals.

As an example we have learnt that Employees consider trainings and further education as the most attractive benefits. Majority prefers self-development even over the company car.

Professional trainings 67,2%

Private healthcare 56,6%

Subsidies for further education (e.g. MBA) 55,4%

Company car 53,3%

Group insurance 13,6%

Team building activities & events 11,1%

Source: Hays Poland survey, n = 526

Above data indicates key incentives when creating a bonus structure or employment offer.

In case there is a skill deficit on certain market there is always a potential to source professionals from other countries, but only if you know the key advantages to relocate.

Better opportunities for professional development 56,0%

I can move there with my family 51,7%

Better standards and living conditions in other countries 46,5%

My family or close friends are already living there 13,2%

Better opportunities to find employment 11,1%

Other 8,6%

The costs of living are lower in other countries 3,7%

As an Employer you might convince your ideal candidate by simply emphasizing professional development opportunities or offering relocation package for the family members.

Results of the survey indicate that Life Sciences Employees as well as Employers have different approach in terms of recruitment in comparison with other sectors.

Therefore learning the specifics might affect your managerial or career decision.
