Seven months after promising to release clinical trial data, GlaxoSmithKline has created an online system for researchers to request access to patient-level data and released the names of a group of experts who will review requests from outsider researchers seeking to examine trial data. The drugmaker maintains the effort will make it possible for outside scientists to study Glaxo data and develop their own findings about safety and effectiveness. However, one member of the panel - which is described as independent and will be tasked with reviewing data requests - has previously worked as a consultant to the drugmaker. Brian Strom, a professor of public health and preventive medicine, and also a professor of biostatistics and epidemiology of the University of Pennsylvania, received $5,500 last year, according to the ProPublica database.
