FDA Warns of Meningitis Link with Lamotrigine

WASHINGTON -- The antiepileptic drug lamotrigine (Lamictal) can cause aseptic meningitis, the FDA warned. The agency said it has identified 40 cases in patients taking the drug from 1994 to 2009. Discontinuing lamotrigine in patients showing signs of meningitis without another apparent cause should be considered, the FDA said.
