FDA May Have Cracked Down, But 23andMe, Inc. Exec Remains Hopeful

Ten months after the Food and Drug Administration ordered a direct-to-consumer genetic testing firm to stop selling its service, the company’s medical director sounded an upbeat note at the Oregon Bioscience Association conference.

“People want prevention and personalized medicine,” said Dr. Jill Hagenkord, chief medical officer for Mountain View-based 23andMe Inc. “Sequencing is getting cheaper and cheaper, to a consumer price point.”
