Huntsville, Alabama, August 3, 2011. Eurofins MWG Operon introduces Orange Bag™
packaging for custom oligo delivery. As part of their environmental initiatives, Eurofins MWG
Operon has replaced paperboard boxes used to ship up to twelve tubes of custom oligos with a
biodegradable bag—Orange Bag. This new packaging reduces the amount of materials used for
shipping by Eurofins MWG Operon by over one ton each year while maintaining protection
during shipment.
Orange Bag is a biodegradable, recyclable synthetic bag that will replace the two most-used
sizes of paperboard boxes. The bags display their distinctive orange color on one side and are
clear on the other side for easy identification and removal of individual oligo tubes.
Extensive testing was performed to ensure that Orange Bag is effective at preventing damage
to tubes during delivery. Our current packaging process will continue to keep the shipments
safe.
Orange Bag is part of Eurofins MWG Operon’s environmental initiatives that include using
recycled, biodegradable, or recyclable packaging materials; printing on paper that is
manufactured using renewable forestry practices; recycling office paper, cans, and bottles; and
co-processing solvent waste. Co-processing ensures complete thermal destruction of the
solvents and replaces fossil fuels used by our co-processing partners.
