TEL AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IATI-Biomed, the premier international biomed conference in Israel, taking place May 12-14, 2015, in Tel Aviv, Israel, announced today that the conference, for the first time, will host a three day healthcare IT hackathon, in parallel to the conference and exhibition.

During this three day event of concentrated, cross-disciplinary creativity, individuals with technology and healthcare backgrounds, including engineers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, software developers and designers, will divide into mixed groups of their choice and collaborate in order to come up with innovative solutions to health IT challenges.

In preparation for the hackathon, senior healthcare executives from hospitals and HMOs in Israel and the US suggested a list of problems facing the healthcare system today. Out of these, three main fields were chosen to be addressed during the hackathon:

1. Technology solutions for monitoring patients outside the clinic and hospitals, such as telemedicine and solutions for preventive medicine.

2. Technology for improving patients’ information security, specifically when sharing information and coordinating between different healthcare systems.

3. Solutions for improving patients’ compliance with medical regime and medical care instructions.

The hackathon, organized in collaboration with Designit, will take place under the guidance of three key opinion leaders of Israel’s healthcare and medical world: Rafael Beyar, MD, Chief Executive Officer & Director General, Rambam Health Care Campus; Ronni Gamzu, MD, formerly Director of Israel’s Ministry of Health; and Ziv Ofek, founder of dbmotion. The projects will be presented to the forum, and the team with the best idea will be awarded a 10,000 NIS prize and the mentorship of Designit, as well as a mentoring session with one of the judges.

Dr. Benny Zeevi and Ruthi Alon, IATI-Biomed Co-Chairpersons, said, “The innovation and creativity of Israel’s entrepreneurs can lead to the development of breakthrough technologies in the field of digital health and health IT, that have the potential to improve the lives of millions of people worldwide.
