Elekta Raises More Than $28,000 to Support Women With Cancer

Texas WINGS received funds, which will help uninsured women with breast cancer receive treatment

San Antonio, TX US — Tuesday, October 20, 2015 — Elekta activities at the 57th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) raised $28,495 for Texas WINGS (Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving, Sharing), an organization that provides comprehensive breast cancer treatment and follow up care at no cost to the patient. Texas WINGS provides cancer treatment for uninsured women and survivorship services to communities throughout Central and South Texas.

“The support of ASTRO helps ensure than no woman will be faced with choosing between feeding her family and getting lifesaving treatment,” says Terri Bronocco Jones, Executive Director, Texas WINGS. “WINGS thanks the members of ASTRO who helped raise money for their generous spirit and kind hearts. We believe that everyone deserves a lifetime.”

The donation came from proceeds from event and raffle ticket sales for the Charity Bash, held Saturday, October 17 at the Buckhorn Saloon, where attendees enjoyed live music and dancing.

“Texas WINGS understands that breast cancer survivorship is a combination of the patient’s courage and the high quality care they receive. That women are courageous in the face of this illness is understood. WINGS is doing everything it can to ensure the latter requirement is fulfilled,” adds Bill Yaeger, Elekta’s Executive Vice President, Region North America. “Elekta is proud to take part in this charitable event, particularly since it is occurring during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is marked in countries around the world each October. It helps increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection and treatment, and palliative care of this disease.”
