EDEN Bioscience Announces Today That Dr. Jean-Philippe Lemaire Presented the Latest Generation of Lumbar Disc Prosthesis at the American College of Spine Surgery

LONGWOOD, Fla., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Eden Spine, LLC announced today that Dr. Jean-Philippe Lemaire from France presented the latest generation of Lumbar Disc Prosthesis, the WellDisc-L, during the American College of Spine Surgery (ACSS) annual meeting on May 3rd, 2007 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The ACSS' mission is to improve patient's care by promoting education and training programs in the field of spine surgery. The program is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

Guillaume Viallaneix, CEO of Eden Spine believes that "the ACSS was the ideal forum to introduce the WellDisc-L to US spinal surgeons precisely because of its emphasis on education and clinical validation. Dr. Lemaire was able to share with the floor of Orthopedic and Neurosurgeons, his 17 years of total disc replacement education and clinical experience leading to the development of what he believes is a revolutionary device that will improve patient care by solving many of the challenges facing current artificial disc technologies."

Dr. Lemaire explains that he developed the prosthesis, with the support Mourad Ben Mokhtar, head of Eden Spine's Research and Development entity, with 3 major goals in mind, "preserve the neutral zone over time, preserve the ratio of motion, and maintain the coherence between the instantaneous axis of rotation of the prosthesis and of the functional vertebral unit as defined by Dr. Goel and Dr. Sengupta. The result is to preserve the mobility and decrease overloading of the facets to restore their guiding function." What we truly wish to achieve, Dr. Lemaire added, is "for the prosthesis to be unconstrained in the neutral zone and constrained over the neutral zone." Eden Spine is proud to support Dr. Lemaire and his team in such an ambitious endeavor and looks forward to launch its first full scale clinical study in 2008.

Eden Spine LLC is a privately held spinal organization based in Longwood, Florida, with an International presence in Switzerland. It specializes in the development of innovative motion preservation technologies. Its mission is to develop and distribute worldwide the latest generation of Spinal Technologies.
