Dr. Robert Christenson Named Editor-In-Chief Of AACC's New Journal, The Journal Of Applied Laboratory Medicine

WASHINGTON, Jan. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AACC, a global scientific and medical professional organization dedicated to better health through laboratory medicine, is pleased to announce that Robert Christenson, PhD, DABCC, FACB, will assume the position of editor-in-chief for AACC's new journal, The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine: An AACC Publication, effective January 24.

Dedicated to achieving better health through laboratory medicine, the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, AACC, brings together more than 50,000 clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, research scientists, and business leaders from around the world focused on clinical chemistry, molecular diagnostics, mass spectrometry, translational medicine, lab management, and other areas of breaking laboratory science. Christenson is clinical director of core laboratories and medical director of point-of-care services at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and brings to this role in-depth knowledge of the translational research that The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine will feature. He also has extensive experience with the medical journal community and the process of reviewing scientific articles. Prior to joining AACC's new journal, Christenson worked on the journal Clinical Biochemistry for 20 years, serving as an associate editor and in a variety of other roles. He has also been an editorial board member and reviewer for numerous other medical journals, including AACC's flagship journal, Clinical Chemistry.

As editor-in-chief of The Journal of Applied Laboratory Medicine, Christenson will play an integral leadership role in launching and establishing the new journal, and will work with AACC staff to prepare for the debut of the first issue in the second quarter of 2016. Over the course of his 5-year term, he will guide the journal's efforts to drive progress in clinical testing and patient care by highlighting applied laboratory medicine studies at the forefront of the field.

Christenson has served in numerous AACC leadership roles and held the position of AACC President in 2013. He completed the University of North Carolina's ComACC approved Fellowship training program after earning his PhD in chemistry from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida; he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts.
