DigiPath Labs Completes Validation Of Romer Labs, Inc. Food-Borne Pathogen And Mycotoxin Testing Solutions

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- DigiPath Labs, the cannabis testing subsidiary of DigiPath, Inc. (OTCQB: DIGP), in cooperation with True North Laboratory, has completed validation of four Romer Labs food safety testing solutions for cannabis. DigiPath Labs intends to use Romer Labs' rapid diagnostic test kits to screen for food-borne pathogens and quantify mycotoxins present in cannabis.

DigiPath, Inc., through its subsidiary, DigiPath, Corp., creates and markets innovative and reliable digital pathology solutions that empower private and academic institutions with the ability to create, store, manage, analyze, and correlate data collected through virtual microscopy. DigiPath, Inc. digital pathology portfolio includes PathScope(TM), PathCloud(TM), PathReview(TM), and PathConsult(TM) digital platforms to share and store archive tissue images.

"This joint effort between independent cannabis testing labs in two states and Romer Labs comprised the first validation of kit-based assays for food-borne pathogen and mycotoxin quality assurance testing on cannabis," says Dr. Cindy Orser, DigiPath Labs' Chief Science Officer. "Romer Labs has earned itself a stellar reputation in the food industryit is the trusted brand for food safety testing, accepted by the food-production industry and familiar to the FDA."

Mycotoxin testing is one of the many quality tests DigiPath Labs performs to comply with the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health's rules for safety testing of cannabis products. DigiPath Labs chose to partner with Austria-based Romer Labs because of its global leadership.

"These kits are already used by food producers in the United States and around the world to help ensure we don't buy food products contaminated with harmful levels of pathogens and mycotoxins," explains Todd Denkin, DigiPath Labs' CEO. "Incorporating them into our testing process helps us achieve regulatory compliance, promote public safety and health, and increase credibility regarding the cannabis industry's ability to make responsible choices."

Last week, Dr. Orser of DigiPath Labs, together with Scott Radcliffe and Meredith Sutzko, two scientists from Romer Labs, performed the validation studies at True North Laboratory's cannabis testing facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The testing was conducted to validate Romer Labs'AgraQuant® Ochratoxin A ELISA System, which is quantitative from 2 to 40 ppb; its AgraStrip® Aflatoxin Lateral Flow System, which features a 20 ppb aflatoxin cutoff sensitivity; and the fully quantitative AgraStrip® Aflatoxin WATEX test, which utilizes a water-based extraction process. All three solutions are capable of quantifying mycotoxins within the specifications of Nevada's guidelines for cannabis quality assurance testing.

The study team also validated Romer Labs' AOAC-certified RapidChek® SELECT Salmonella and RapidChek® E. Coli O157 test systems for applicability to cannabis safety testing. Results of the tests will be made public shortly in the form of a technical brief.
