DiCOM grid Announces FDA Approval of Next Generation Cloud PACS and Zero-Footprint Diagnostic Viewer

NEW YORK, April 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- DICOM Grid, makers of the leading cloud-based, medical image management suite, today announced FDA approval and new features for managing, viewing, and interpreting medical images with next generation cloud PACS and HTML 5, zero-footprint diagnostic viewer tools. To leverage these and other industry-leading medical image management capabilities, New England Baptist Hospital and CareWell Urgent Care are the latest healthcare organizations to adopt DICOM Grid. They join the fast-growing network of 70,000 users and 750+ providers exchanging medical images with the DICOM Grid platform today.

Enabling access to imaging across departments is critical to speeding up communication among medical staff and reducing time-to-care delivery. DG PACS allows medical groups and practices to manage medical images onsite and offsite using configurable workflow rules for routing, a robust modality work list, and integrated reporting tools. And thanks to a cloud-based architecture, DG PACS provides for easy sharing of images, mobile access from anywhere at any time for quick reads, as well as full diagnostic, read-at-home and tele-radiology capabilities with only a web browser.

Healthcare organizations of all sizes use the DG Viewer to facilitate rapid diagnosis of trauma and tele-stroke cases, in operating rooms to aid during orthopedic, cardiovascular and neurosurgery procedures, and for collaboration and consultation among physicians. Some of the key new features of the DG Viewer include:

  • Simple-to-use viewing tools for annotating imaging studies
  • A built-in meeting tool which gives a physician the ability to invite a colleague to a session for a live case review and consult the ultimate in online collaboration
  • Hanging protocols and viewer customization that enable an organization to cater the viewing experience to specialty physicians and surgeons
  • 3-D manipulation tools which allow images to be scrolled through in each plane while reference lines move accordingly in the other planes

During accelerated growth and network expansion, integrating diagnostic imaging infrastructure in a timely, cost effective manner often proves challenging. DICOM Grid's new cloud PACS platform and 510(k) HTML 5, zero-footprint diagnostic viewer offer a path forward that allows for the elimination of VPNs, CDs and manual, error-prone workflow. DG PACS and DG Viewer can also easily be integrated into health information exchanges (HIE) or leading electronic health record (EHR) systems from vendors such as Epic or athenahealth to image-enable the patient record. Consolidating medical history and imaging in one core location can save time otherwise wasted searching for records and most importantly, prevent the occurrence of costly redundant radiology exams, while minimizing patient radiation dose exposure.

New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH), one of America's top hospitals for orthopedics, recently launched the use of DICOM Grid's diagnostic viewer in the operating room for reference during surgeries.  In addition, physicians use the viewer in their offices at the hospital and their private practice clinics offsite to view studies performed while their patients are at NEBH or studies uploaded from patient CDs during the admissions process.

"Because both NEBH and outside studies are available in DICOM Grid, the physicians can easily hang priors performed at other facilities next to more recent studies done within the hospital," says Tyler Martin, Executive Director, Ambulatory Network Operations. "This streamlines their workflow, allowing them to more rapidly arrive at a treatment plan for the patient."

Carewell Urgent Care, a leading provider of episodic healthcare in New England with over 15 locations, recently deployed DICOM Grid as a Cloud PACS, image transfer mechanism, and online portal for sharing studies with patients. In addition, studies are often shared with UMass Memorial Healthcare for analysis where a report is created, automatically attached and shared back. At the core of the cloud PACS initiative at Carewell, is the simple goal of providing patients with better access to imaging.

"DICOM Grid makes sharing studies with patients simple. If the patient requests a copy of their report, the tech simply shares the study with their email address," said Terry Giove, Vice President of Operations at Carewell Urgent Care. "DICOM Grid is a simple, elegant solution to solving a normally complex process."
