Fort Worth, Texas-based Galderma Laboratories announced its “topping-out” today for its new research and development center. A topping-out ceremony is when the final beam on a high-rise construction project is completed. The overall project is expected to be finished in the first quarter of 2017.

The expansion of the company’s North American headquarters adds 100,000 square feet to its already 170,000-square-foot campus. With an investment of $22 million, the facility, which will be used for research and development, training, and office space, will also add more than 350 new jobs over the next several years. The facility currently employs about 600 people.

Galderma focuses on dermatology products, and as of 2014, is fully owned by Nestlé. Galderma employs about 6,000 people worldwide, with five research-and-development centers located in France, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.S. and Japan.

In the last 20 months, Galderma has launched nine products, including Cetaphil Men and Baby product lines, prescription Soolantra (ivermectin) Cream, Epiduo Forte (adapalene and benzoyl peroxide) Gel, Restylane Silk and Restylane Lyft.

“This expansion shows Galderma’s commitment to both skin health innovation and the Fort Worth community,” said Miles Harrison, general manager and president of Galderma North America, in a statement. “It’s a game-changer in that it will allow us to double the number of staff at our North American headquarters, increase our talent and concentrate on our one and only focus: providing for skin health needs at every stage of life.”

The Texas Enterprise Fund subsidized the expansion with $2 million, and the city of Forth Worth threw in tax incentives.

“Galderma’s expansion shows the company’s commitment to serving the Forth Worth community and its workforce needs,” said Texas Governor Greg Abbott in a statement. “We are proud that Galderma has decided to continue investing in Texas and create hundreds of new jobs to support their North American operations.”

“We are proud that Galderma chose to invest in research and development and expand its Forth Worth footprint,” added Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, in a statement. “We appreciate the company’s commitment to creating hundreds of new jobs here in Forth Worth and look forward to mutual continued growth and success in our city.”

Galderma was formed in 1981 as a joint venture between Nestlé and L’Oréal, and is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland with corporate services located in Paris-La Défense, France. Its dermatology products are used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including acne, rosacea, psoriasis, onychomycosis, skin cancer and wrinkles. Galderma has manufacturing facilities in France, Canada, Sweden, Germany and Brazil.

In January, Galderma invested $46 million to expand its Canadian manufacturing facilities in Baie d’Urfe, Quebec. The expansion increased plant capacity by 25 percent and created 65 new jobs. The Canadian facility previously employed 315 people.
