DelSite Biotechnologies, Inc. and ElSohly Laboratories Sign Amendment to Technology License Agreement

IRVING, Texas, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Carrington Laboratories, Inc. today announced its wholly-owned subsidiary DelSite Biotechnologies, Inc. has amended its technology license agreement with privately-held ElSohly Laboratories, Inc. (ELi), of Oxford, Mississippi, for use of GelSite(R) polymer drug delivery.

Both DelSite Biotechnologies and ElSohly Laboratories have been beneficiaries in Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) with the National Cancer Institute (NCI). DelSite's CRADA currently covers the development of a nasal powder vaccine for Human Papillomavirus (HPV). ElSohly's CRADA covered an anticancer drug that has demonstrated anticancer activity and reduction of metastasis of cancer cells in more than one type of cancer.

Dr. Mahmoud ElSohly, president and laboratory director of ElSohly Laboratories, stated, "This amendment allows ELi to use the GelSite(R) polymer in combination with small molecules with defined biological activity. Our interest in DelSite's technology is to take advantage of its GelSite(R) polymer's unique chemical and stabilizing characteristics in formulating our new drug candidates. We anticipate that the GelSite(R) polymer will enhance the solubility and extend the release time of our small molecule drug candidates and analogs currently under development in collaboration with the National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi."

Dr. Yawi Ni, chief scientific officer at DelSite, said, "This agreement provides for the GelSite(R) polymer to be used to deliver small biologically active molecules and expands the platform capabilities of our technology. We look forward to being involved with ELi in an exciting new area for us."
