Covidien May Acquire Medical Device Makers in India

Ireland based Covidien Plc , a medical device-maker is looking for local companies in India as a part of its expansion plans. According to Business Line, the company is also planning to invest $11 bn in setting clinical training institutes and acquiring manufacturing capabilities in the country in addition to ramping up its distribution channel in a bid to expand its reach to tier 2 cities. Incorporated in Dublin, Covidien makes devices used for various surgical applications including laparoscopy, stapling, soft tissue repair and respiratory and monitoring/sensors solutions. For 2011, it posted revenues of $11.6 bn and has 41,000 employees worldwide in more than 65 countries, and its products are sold in over 140 countries.
