Cincinnati Doctor’s Invention Could Transform Weight-Loss Surgery

Dr. Jon Thompson of UC Health has invented a medical device that could change how weight-loss surgery is performed.

Standard Bariatrics, the Blue Ash startup company he founded to develop and market the device, hopes to get it into the hands of surgeons by 2017.

Thompson, 35, said the medical stapler he invented could transform how surgeons perform a sleeve gastrectomy, a popular form of weight-loss surgery.
