ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 9 — Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (Cincinnati, Ohio) recently installed a CARESTREAM DRX-Revolution Mobile X-ray System that routinely captures more than 100 X-ray imaging studies a day in its emergency department trauma bays and multiple critical care areas. The renowned 598-bed hospital is the third highest ranked children’s hospital in the United States for 2014-2015 according to U.S. News & World Report.

The new mobile imaging system provides physicians and staff with access to high-quality images in as little as five seconds. Specialized imaging software creates secondary images from the initial X-ray exposure that are designed to optimize visibility of PICC lines, tracheal tubes and other medical devices that need to be correctly positioned.

Images are wirelessly transmitted in seconds to the hospital’s PACS image management system so radiologists and clinicians can consult in real-time on treatment decisions. The hospital uses pediatric software that provides specific techniques and image processing parameters for the seven pediatric age/weight categories established by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for guidance.

The new imaging system sends dose data to the hospital’s dose reporting system. The hospital monitors and reports dose for CT and interventional radiography procedures as well as X-ray imaging procedures.
