Cigarette Smoking May Increase Risk of Muscle-Wasting Disease, Harvard School of Public Health Study

Sify -- Scientists have found that cigarette smoking may be associated with an increased risk of developing the muscle-wasting disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). To examine the association between cigarette smoking and ALS, Hao Wang, of the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, and colleagues analyzed data from five different long-term studies involving a total of more than 1.1 million participants, of whom 832 had ALS.
