Chickens Pegged as Source of H7N9 Flu, Lancet Reveals

Evidence from a single patient infected with the novel avian influenza virus H7N9 points to transmission from live poultry, Chinese researchers reported. The virus isolated from a 64-year-old man who died from the infection was "almost identical" to that isolated from a chicken taken from a wet market with epidemiological ties to the patient, Lanjuan Li, MD, of Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, and colleagues reported online in The Lancet.
