Cheetah Medical Inc. Announces Superior Results for the NICOM Non-Invasive Real-Time Cardiac Output Monitoring Device Compared With Thermodilution

TEL-AVIV, Israel, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Cheetah Medical Inc., developers of the Cheetah NICOM(TM) system, for non-invasive, real-time cardiac output monitoring, announced at NTI in Atlanta that the results of the study "Noninvasive cardiac output monitoring (NICOM): a clinical validation" have been accepted for publication in Intensive Care Medicine. NTI is an educational conference for critical care nurses.

In a study led by P. Squara, MD from the Clinique Ambroise Pare, Paris, France, cardiac output measurements obtained from NICOM were compared with thermodilution measurements in the Intensive care unit immediately after cardiac surgery. Measurements were simultaneously recorded and compared in 110 patients. Parameters evaluated included accuracy, precision, responsiveness, and reliability of NICOM for detecting changes in cardiac output.

Lead author P. Squara concluded, "Cardiac output measured by NICOM had most often acceptable accuracy, precision, and responsiveness in a wide range of circulatory situations."

Dr. Squara continued, "In an Intensive Care setting, accurate cardiac monitoring is essential for establishing a differential diagnosis. Existing techniques which require vascular access through the large veins or arteries are associated with complications, take valuable time to administer and increase cost of care. The ability to use a non-invasive device to attain accurate measurements is a significant advance in intensive care medicine. "

The NICOM(TM) is a portable system that utilizes the proprietary BIOREACTANCETM technology, developed by Cheetah Medical that is designed to measure cardiac output in virtually any clinical setting. Cheetah considers the use of BIOREACTANCE to be superior to other noninvasive systems that rely on thoracic bioimpedance, an older technology, especially for continuous monitoring of cardiac output and in clinical environments such as intensive care units, emergency departments and during stress tests, where there is significant electrical noise and patient movement,

Yoav Avidor MD, Cheetah Medical CEO said, "NICOM has large potential in Intensive Care and peri-operative settings. Further, I believe that the ability to accurately and precisely measure cardiac output in virtually any time and place will enable a whole new range of applications, such as emergency medicine, cardiac care units, dialysis clinics and in determining exercise cardiac output (ECOTM).

Dr. Avidor added, "When we succeed in this goal, we may see a significant impact on the way common afflictions such as heart failure are monitored and managed.

About the Company

Cheetah Medical is a privately held company based in Tel Aviv, Israel. The company is focusing on establishing NICOM(TM) as a frontline tool to monitor cardiac function in several inpatient and outpatient areas of high unmet need. Importantly, this new technology has been proven to provide accurate and reliable measurements of cardiac output, even during patient movement, in hospital settings rich with radiofrequency noise and across a variety of body types. These features enable the device to be used in several important clinical applications, including ECO(TM) (Exercise CO testing), CRT-pacemaker optimization, thoracic fluid content (TFC) for acute and chronic heart failure management, emergency room, cardiac care unit, and out-patient and home heart failure diagnosis and monitoring.

Cheetah has recently opened an office in the United States and is launching its marketing activities in this market.
