Carestream Health, Inc. Expands Cloud Services With Vue Motion Viewer; Shows Works-in-Progress Patient Portal

2/10/2012 10:19:37 AM

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 9 — Carestream has expanded its CARESTREAM Vue for Cloud Services with mobile imaging data access from its Vue Motion zero footprint viewer and higher levels of encryption and security through use of the Intel® Xeon® processor E7 family. These enhancements were demonstrated at the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference this week.

The company also showed as a works-in-progress a cloud-based patient portal* that will allow patients to access, view and share their own medical imaging data with physicians, specialists and other healthcare facilities. When available, this patient portal can integrate with a facility’s EHR/EMR.

Carestream’s Vue portfolio of cloud services enables radiologists and clinicians to access patient data, imaging exams and radiology reports quickly and easily from any location. A portal for data access by referring physicians will be available by the end of March 2012.

“Our Vue Motion viewer and use of Intel processors in our data centers are both examples of liberating technologies that set new benchmarks for performance and user convenience. Vue Motion is easy to deploy and supports fast data access on mobile devices, which is ideal for physicians who need to view radiology information on the go,” said Hadas Padan, Carestream’s Director of Product Management, Healthcare Information Solutions. “Employing Intel’s Xeon E7 family of processors not only boosts performance but can also deliver hardware-accelerated encryption. We can now achieve higher levels of security while improving response times for users.”

Carestream was one of the first healthcare IT providers to conduct pre-launch testing of the new Xeon processor E7 family. The company first deployed these new processors in its Vue PACS and Vue RIS platforms to deliver rapid data access to a larger number of users per server.

Intel will discuss Carestream’s cloud services as part of a HIMSS session they are hosting on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 2:00?3:00 p.m. The session is titled: “From Theory to Reality: Building a Secure Cloud Environment for Diagnostic Imaging.”

Cloud Benefits Facilities of All Sizes

Cloud services are attractive for facilities of all sizes because they deliver high-performance applications on a predictable pay-per-use basis without requiring a large capital investment. Larger facilities are embracing the cloud because their IT infrastructure requires continuous maintenance, management and technology upgrades. With cloud services they can achieve a faster return on investment and an overall cost reduction of up to 30 percent. Imaging centers and mid-sized hospitals benefit from a service model that offers high-quality PACS, archiving and image sharing functionality along with expertise in data security. Healthcare providers of all sizes appreciate services that include technology refreshment and can easily be scaled to accommodate a growth or decrease in imaging volumes.

Carestream’s family of cloud services includes Vue Cloud PACS, Vue Cloud Archive, and Vue Cloud Community, which offers image exchange and access portals. Carestream Health is a proven cloud services provider that manages 30 million studies (1 petabyte of data) in 10 different clouds worldwide. Carestream is an industry leader in the technologies, infrastructure and processes that deliver cloud services while ensuring the highest levels of data security and privacy.
