Bristol-Myers Squibb Company Will Add New Building, 2,500 Workers In NJ

Bristol-Myers Squibb is doubling down on the state of New Jersey as a great place to do business, announcing late Tuesday that it will expand its presence in Mercer County with a new, eco-friendly 650,000-square-foot office building for as many as 2,500 workers in Lawrence.

“Our new campus will create a dynamic and modern workplace to advance the important work that our employees are doing to discover, develop and deliver innovative medicines for patients with serious diseases,” Bristol-Myers Squibb Chief Executive Officer Lamberto Andreotti said in a statement.

The build-out is an effort to modernize its workspaces, said the company, and will serve Bristol-Myers Squibb in addition to its worldwide headquarters, located in the state’s Lawrence Township. Opened in 1971, Bristol-Myers Squibb’s worldwide headquarters is situated in Lawrence at Route 206 and Province Line Road.

Bristol-Myers Squibb said it will consolidate existing operations in Plainsboro and West Windsor, and that construction could begin as soon as this fall and last into 2016.

New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno lauded the move. “As the home of more scientists and engineers per square mile than anywhere else in the world, New Jersey continues to be a leader in research and innovation,” Guadagno said. “We know that businesses always have a choice and we are pleased that Bristol-Myers Squibb made the right decision to stay here in the Garden State.”

Local official Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes welcomed the company’s intentions to build the new construction as environmentally friendly as they can. The new building will meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a green building certification program, and offer preferred parking to hybrid vehicles.

“Mercer County has worked hard to create a business friendly environment through our Office of Economic Development so that great companies like Bristol-Myers Squibb are eager to make Mercer their home,” Hughes said. “This latest commitment further cements Mercer County as a prime location for corporate growth and development.”
