LOS ANGELES, March 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Health economics and policy authority Precision Health Economics (PHE) announced today the hiring of Ross Maclean as chief operating officer (COO). Dr. Maclean's significant and varied background spans the provider, payer, and manufacturing worlds in multiple countries, encompassing leadership skills, management talents, and a rapid career progression. His well-rounded experience will underpin the research enterprise at PHE, the rapidly growing consultancy of elite thought leaders focused on the critical health policy and healthcare delivery issues: objective determination of value, and measureable improvement in patient outcomes.

"PHE's brand of innovative health policy, economics, and outcomes research is rapidly growing in value; demand is increasing from both existing and new customers; we grew 45 percent in 2013 and are on target to grow by 50 percent this year," said Glenn Bilawsky, CEO of PHE. "Ross's day-to-day management of our research operations will free the executive team to capitalize on that increasing demand to pursue an even more aggressive growth strategy."

One of three industry advisors to PhRMA's Medication Adherence Advisory Council, Maclean's resume includes 12 years of progressive responsibilities at BMS, including as leader of the US Health Economics and Outcomes Research function, which he rebuilt to a sizeable and capable team, and as a member of the Global and US Medical leadership teams. He has focused on creating strategies to optimize business processes, increase efficiency, and improve quality while significantly reducing costs.

"The value of innovation has been a recurring theme throughout my career--demonstrating the medical, economic, humanistic, and societal value of advances in healthcare delivery, medical devices, and biopharmaceuticals," Maclean said. "I am inspired by my fellow team members at PHE, an intellectual powerhouse of economists, health system researchers, and clinicians dedicated to addressing some of the most complex challenges and opportunities facing tomorrow's healthcare system."

While his responsibilities at BMS honed additional capabilities in health system design, health policy, and market access, Maclean built a knowledge of healthcare delivery through positions in the UK's National Health Service, and in the US at the Augusta, Georgia, Veteran's Affairs Medical Center and as director of the Center for Healthcare Improvement, a collaboration of the Medical College of Georgia and BlueCross BlueShield of Georgia, among other leadership roles.

Maclean trained as a primary care physician with a UK Medical Research Council fellowship in Health Services Research. He has US-equivalent degrees to MD, PhD, MBA and MSc, and more than 70 publications to his credit.
