Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. Invests $79 Million on Missouri Expansion; 115 New Jobs to be Created

8/29/2012 7:55:58 AM

Boehringer-Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc. plans to invest millions of dollars and create dozens of new jobs in Missouri, Gov. Jay Nixon announced Tuesday.

The animal health company plans to invest $79 million in St. Joseph, generating 115 new jobs during the next three years, according to a release from the governor’s office. A spokesman said the figures came from Boehringer-Ingelheim Vetmedica.

The official groundbreaking for a 260,000-square-foot consolidated packaging and physical distribution warehouse was Tuesday morning; a related event included a dedication for a new, 100,000-square-foot administration building.

“Boehringer-Ingelheim Vetmedica Inc. is an anchor of the Animal Health Corridor, and this latest expansion in St. Joseph strengthens our state’s standing as a leader in this worldwide industry,” Nixon said in the release.

A separate release from the St. Joseph Metro Chamber said the $30 million warehouse project would create more than 25 logistics jobs by the fourth quarter of 2013 and retain 60 St. Joseph jobs, and the administrative building represented a $22.8 million investment. The company also is making investments at its existing campus, according to the chamber.

The company could be eligible for a state economic incentive package if it meets certain job-creation and investment criteria, Nixon’s office said.

The warehouse will be in the undeveloped part of the Eastowne Business Park; the company will take a long-term lease on the building. The developer is Prudential Summers, Realtors, and the contractor is E.L. Crawford Construction.

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica is a subsidiary of Boehringer Ingelheim Corp.
