Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute Release: Alzheimer's Researcher To Speak In Washington; Addresses Woman's National Democratic Club March 16

WASHINGTON, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Daniel Alkon, M.D., scientific director of the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI), will be the luncheon speaker at the Woman's National Democratic Club in Washington March 16.

His address, "Unlocking the Secrets of Memories and Memories Lost," will explore current scientific knowledge of how the human brain processes, stores and retrieves memories.

Dr. Alkon has been a pioneer of memory mechanisms in the brain for more than three decades. Recognized as an international authority of the molecular basis of memory, he is the author of hundreds of scientific articles in leading journals around the world, and has also written for the lay public in his book Memory's Voice (Harper Collins).

Together with BRNI's founder, U.S. Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, (D-WV), Alkon is dedicated to finding the causes of Alzheimer's disease, developing diagnostics to identify it in patients, and discovering a cure.

Alkon has, in recent years, presided over important breakthroughs for the treatment of and diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, including obtaining patents for the use of the drug bryostatin in Alzheimer's treatment.

The Woman's National Democratic Club is located at 1526 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, in Washington. Bar opens 11:30 a.m., lunch 12:30 p.m. Club members may attend for $19, admission for nonmembers is $25.
