BiotechLikemind to Host Seminar on Future of Life Science Incubators

BOSTON, Mass. – October 16, 2012 - BiotechLikemind, the Boston biotech network and idea exchange, will host a panel presentation by two of the area’s leading life science incubators on the future of biotech incubators titled, “Life Science Incubators – Let Biotech Ideas Grow” on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Space with a Soul conference center, 281 Summer Street in Boston at 7:00 pm. Event detail and registration information is available at http://biotechlikemind2.eventbrite.com/#.

Presenting will be Martha Farmer, Ph.D., President and CEO of North Shore InnoVentures, one of the area’s leading biotech and cleantech incubators, on how an incubator can help accelerate the development of a start-up venture. North Shore InnoVentures operates the non-profit Biotech InnoVenture Center with state-of-the-art shared laboratories and equipment, a range of services and educational programs, pro bono support from sponsors and access to a network of investors.

Also presenting will be Roger Frechette, Ph.D., Partner at New England PharmAssociates (NEPA), on the growth and successes of virtual biotech company models developed over the past decade. NEPA provides business solutions for both virtual and traditional 'bricks & mortar' companies in the pharmaceutical and life science sector – matching the needs of resource-challenged, nascent life sciences enterprises to achieve significant value enhancement.

Also participating in a panel discussion after the presentations will be Alain J. Hanover, co-founder of Boston-based Common Angels and a former CEO of Incert Software and Viewlogic; Tarik Soliman, Ph.D., President and CEO of Extend Biosciences, a start-up biotechnology company developing novel drug delivery formulations; and Joel Berniac, Ph.D., President and CEO of Akrivis Technologies, a privately held company committed to the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of serious and life-threatening diseases.

“Life science incubators have dramatically lowered barriers to success for emerging companies by providing cost-effective, high quality laboratory space and support services,” said Elmar Nurmemmedov, Ph.D., Harvard Medical School scientist and founder of BiotechLikemind. “But questions abound as to which incubator is right for your venture? What are the elements for success? And is a virtual biotech model viable in today’s environment? Our distinguished presenters and panelists each give a unique perspective on the future of life science incubation for start-up firms.”
