Biotech Firm Backed By Mexican Billionaire Carlos Slim Files To Go Public

Atara Biotherapeutics Inc., which is developing therapies for illnesses such as kidney disease and ovarian cancer, has filed for an initial public offering, according to a September 26 filing with the Security and Exchange Commission. Mexican telecom billionaire Carlos Slim’s family trust owns 9.3%. Other shareholders include Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins, with an 18% stake, and biotech firms Celgene and Amgen, which own 8.7% and 8.6%, respectively.
