Symposium about development and application of bioprocesses in industrial scale in April 2014 in Berlin

(Berlin, October 2013) The 3rd BioProScale Symposium “Inhomogeneities in large-scale bioreactors: System biology and process dynamics” takes place from 2 to 4 April 2014 in Berlin, Germany. The symposium is targeted at experts from research & development and industrial practice from producers of biogas and enzymes, antibiotic production, bioprocess development, pharmaceutical bioprocesses and food processes.

Consistent bioprocess development needs to be performed at the perspective of the final process scale. As a result a better understanding of the final industrial scale is an important issue, which includes technical challenges (sensors, modelling tools) and the cellular dynamic regulatory networks and population dynamics.

The 3rd BioProScale Symposium aims to discuss progresses and challenges in the different scientific disciplines. It summarises the current state of knowledge in relation to our understanding of processes in large scale bioreactors for different bio products. The symposium covers related applications starting from food production, white biotechnology and bio based energy/biorefinery processes up to the field of biopharmaceutical production.

“Our aim is to bring stakeholders which work with different large-scale bioprocesses together in order to discuss their experiences and research needs” says Prof. Dr. Peter Neubauer, Head of the Chair of Bioprocess Technology of Technische Universität Berlin and organiser of the symposium. The core symposium topics will include in particular:

Quality by design in bioprocess development:

High throughput applications, in-line process analytics, data handling and analysis, multivariate data processing, scale down methods, evolutionary strategies for strains and processes

Process analytical technologies for an advanced understanding of bioprocesses and product quality control:

Comprehensive process monitoring, non-invasive sensors for all process scales, multiparameter sensors, addressing inhomogeneities by sensor applications and multiposition sampling, modelling and control approaches, influence of early process steps on later downstream operations

Automation in process development and process control:

Process design including feed-back and feed-forward strategies, process control by data based and mechanistic models, model-based experimental design strategies

The 3rd BioProScale Symposium is jointly organised by the Technische Universität Berlin, Chair of Bioprocess Technology, and the Institute for Gaerungsgewerbe und Biotechnologie zu Berlin (IfGB) in cooperation with the BioProScale-Network and Unicat. Congress language is English. More information and registration at www.bioproscale-conference.org.
